First edition, first impression. One of Gribble’s famous Inspector Slade stories, memorably filmed,
and a notable scarcity in dust jacket. The dustjacket image shows manager George Allison giving
a tactical briefing to his team. Allison took over at Arsenal after the untimely death of Herbert Chapman
and led the team to three successive championships. He had a speaking part in the film, delivering the line;
“It’s one-nil to the Arsenal. That’s the way we like it,” which has remained part of the
Arsenal mythos, encapsulated in the famous chant “One-nil to the Arsenal!
